Hellooo Hexagon! You’ve Got Style!

jenchapin_hexi

Hey there! Jennifer here today, and I want to share a card I made using the Hexagon tool!

Along with some hexagon die cuts I had in my stash, I used the tool along with some bubble caps to create some cute and trendy embellishments for this card.

jenchapin_hexi2

Another thing I love to do is stitch through my letters, whether it’s on a card or scrapbook page. It gives a bit of extra texture and you can even sew through chipboard! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today!

Hello Card by Ginny Hughes

Epiphany Crafts Products:
SST-41 EC Shape Studio Star 25
SSA-43 EC Bubble Caps Clear Star 25

other products used-
chipboard-Maya Road
embossing powder-American Crafts Zing
paper-Studio Calico
stamp-Studio Calico
tape-Smash
cardstock-American Crafts

I used embossing powder on the Maya Road chipboard shapes.

I found I got the best coverage if I pressed the chipboard on the Versafine pad, not the other way around. Press hard to make sure you get the whole thing covered really well.

user posted image

Then I sprinkled the embossing powder on the shape. I always do that on top of a sheet of paper, that way it is super easy to slide the unused powder back into the container.

When using a heat tool on a smaller shape it is best to point it straight down or else your shape will get blown all over the place! It takes a little trial and error, but easy to get the hang of it.

Epiphany Crafts Round 14 Button Studio Tool and Round 14 Clear Button Cap
Epiphany Crafts Round 25 Clear Bubble Cap

Maya Road Kraft Note Envelopes- White Polka Dot
Maya Road Scallop Frames Chipboard Set
Maya Road Kraft Typography Numbers- White
Cardstock and String: The Kraft Outlet
Patterned Paper: BasicGrey
Vintage Clip Art: Crafty Secrets
Chipboard Bat: Little Yellow Bicycle
Alpha Stamps: Hero Arts
Memo Pins: Tim Holtz
Trim: May Arts
Ink: Clearsnap and Tsukineko

1. Create a card base from kraft cardstock. Cut two 4″ x 1″ strips of polka dotted paper and adhere one strip to the bottom of the card. Add two layers of patterned papers to the top of the card and adhere the second 4″ x 1″ strip of polka dots across the top, as shown. Machine stitch.

*NOTE: to give my projects a bit of a shabby, distressed look, I like to edge my papers with ink. For this project, I used white ink on the kraft cardstock and dark patterned papers and black ink on the light paper. I gave the papers even more of a distressed look by dragging my fingernail across the edges.

user posted image

2. Add trim. Create four custom bubble caps embellishments using a Maya Road Kraft Note Envelope and the Epiphany Crafts Round 14 Shape Studio Tool. Adhere across the bottom strip of polka dot paper. Add a Round 25 Clear Bubble Cap to a Maya Road “31″ Kraft Typography Number and adhere to the center of the polka dot strip.

user posted image

3. Ink a scalloped chipboard frame with white ink and edge lightly with black ink. Adhere to the center of the card with foam adhesive. Edge a kraft envelope with white ink and adhere to the center of the chipboard frame.

user posted image

4. Stamp sentiment onto thin strips of patterned paper and trim into banners. Attach banners into memo pins and tuck pins into the envelope. Adhere a vintage clip art die cut to the outside of the envelope. Affix a chipboard bat at the bottom of the clip art using foam adhesive.

5. Add a bow to the left side of the frame. Create a custom button using the kraft envelopes and the Epiphany Crafts Round 14 Button Studio Tool. Thread button with string and adhere to the top of the bow.

Patterned Paper, Journaling Card, and Die Cuts: LilyBee Designs

1. Spritz a 5×7 canvas board with blue spray mist. Let dry thoroughly.

user posted image

2. Freehand cut a rounded boat shape from a scrap piece of cardstock. Cover the entire surface with Tombow Mono Adhesive Power Bond and then adhere pieces of twine until the whole shape is covered. Trim away any excess.

user posted image

3. Mask off all but a center strip on the boat with scrap paper. Paint center stripe red. Edge boat with dark brown ink. Stamp splatter onto boat, if desired. Adhere boat to the bottom of the canvas using the Power Bond adhesive.

4. Cut a thin strip of recycled cardboard, edge with brown ink, and adhere to the canvas using the Tombow Glue Pen.

user posted image

5. Draw lines coming down from either side of the mast to the top of the boat with the Tombow Glue Pen and adhere hemp cord. Tie the ends of the hemp into knots and adhere with more Glue Pen adhesive.

user posted image

6. Cut patterned paper into a triangular sail. I used a printed journaling card for mine. For the smaller paper sails, trim down pennant die cuts, or create your own using patterned paper. Edge sails with dark brown ink and add a bit of red paint. I crumpled my main sail for a bit more texture. Add brads, and adhere sails to the mast. Adhere a loop of twine and a bow of hemp to the top of the mast.

user posted image

7. Create a custom button using the Epiphany Crafts Round 14 Button Studio Tool. Adhere button to the main sail. Make two pennants with the Epiphany Crafts Pennant 25 Shape Studio Tool. Adhere pennants to the mast.

The oval tool has a nice slim profile, making it fun to create a pseudo masked or window effect on cards. Stamp an image onto a blank card front. Then stamp the same image onto scraps of paper. Use the Epiphany Crafts Shape Studio to create embellishments from parts of the colored image and then apply to the card front, matching them up to the plain stamped image on the card. This technique will work with any Epiphany Crafts Shape Studio but the oval is well-suited for narrow images.
