Bloom Where You Are Planted Craft

Altered Embroidery Hoop by Designer Tessa Buys

I am blessed with some pretty amazing opportunities (like designing for Epiphany Crafts!), but like everyone else, there are circumstances in my life that are just not very much fun to work through. I’ve been trying to keep my attitude positive and the saying “bloom where you are planted” has been on my mind. I decided to create a piece of wall art featuring those words that would remind me to make the best of my challenges. Of course, Epiphany Crafts has the perfect tool for accenting this flowery phrase – the flower button!

Epiphany Crafts Supplies:
Button Studio Tool Flower 20 and Buttons
Button Studio Round 20 and Button

Other Supplies:
Embroidery Hoop
Muslin
Embroidery Floss
Felt
Flowers (Prima, PrecociousPaper.etsy.com)
Ink
Alpha Stamps

And because no flower is complete without a little foliage, I added leaves to each button flower. First, cut leaf shapes from felt. I used wool felt, which will work much better than acrylic felt because of the quality. You could also use patterned paper or cardstock.

Next, using embroidery floss, stitch a running stitch down the center of your leaf and back again. Secure your ends with a knot on the backside of your leaf.

If you are sewing directly onto something, like I was sewing onto muslin, you can attach your leaves to the background as you stitch your leaf veins. You could also just glue the leaves in after the fact, like I did with my larger leaves.

How cute are the flower buttons perched on their little leaves? I love the texture the thread adds and the homespun look. When playing with the Epiphany Crafts flower tools, don’t forget those leaves!
